Alpina Watches Enjoy Resurgence in Popularity

Alpina watches are Swiss made technical sports watches that have recently experienced a resurgence worldwide. The attractive look and the sporty appearance of the new series of Alpina watches has already garnered a sizable following. With pricing that offers great value for a quality timepiece, Alpina watches are sure to continue to attract even more admirers.

The new breed of Alpina watches are automatic chronographs that retain the nostalgia of their predecessors while utilizing technologically updated fine movements, featuring ETA and Valjoux calibers, and date functions. In early 2002, Alpina was purchased by Frédérique Constant Genève and are now developing a new sports collection, perpetuating the Alpina heritage.

The first Alpina watches were produced over 120 years ago. In 1901, the name "Alpina" was registered as a trademark and only appeared on the dials of high-end watches. Alpina watches have always been manufactured with high quality components, including Breguet spirals, balance wheels with gold screws and heavy gold cases.

The first series in the new Alpina Collection is called Heritage - representing a link between the past and the present of Alpina watches - features an automatic movement and a dial inspired from the thirties. There is no question that the new Alpina watches combine the best of sport and elegance in terms of design and function. All the watches are water-resistant to 100 meters, except the gold Heritage - which is water-resistant to 30 meters. The Heritage series will be a favorite of collectors everywhere for many years.

The second new series from Alpina is Startimer, which is a registered trademark from many years ago. The Startimer Collection returns with a design that is a virtual match to the original series. An additional crown at 10 o'clock adds a unique look and is used to adjust the internal rotating bezel. This collection has its own special character while remaining true to its purpose.

The most recent addition is the Avalanche series. This collection stays true to the unique Alpina design while offering a more affordable value. Price does not give way to function or style as the Avalance collection will make the Alpina watch name proud.

The Alpina watch revival has been slow and steady. The company objective is to re-create a modern version of the "Association of Alpinists" - bringing together selected retailers and distributors to offer the product from their new Alpina factory. In 2004, Alpina created a special edition for the international Austin Healey car rally that takes place every four years. They also produced a limited edition Alpina in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Dutch Healey Cup.

There are only ten dealers in the US right now. You can find a listing of these dealers by going to the directory on the official Alpina website. Most of the dealers do not have websites. Click here for Alpina Watches offered by Authorized Dealers.
