There are literally thousands of models of Fossil Watches to choose from. However, Fossil is probably best known for the Fossil Limited Edition watches that they make.
For example, with the release of the new "Superman Returns" movie this summer, they produced 1,000 pieces of a Limited Edition Fossil Superman Watch. This watch retails for $125.00 and sold out within a few days.
As an example of how popular these are, this model has also already sold on eBay for as much as $195.00. Other popular Fossil collectible watches include an Elvis series, Star Wars series, Harry Potter, Batman and many popular cartoon characters.
Fossil watch tins are almost as popular as the watches they hold. Introduced in 1989, these watch tins reflect Fossil's 1950's Americana style of branding that has made the company so popular. Every new Fossil watch is packaged in one of these distinctive tins and you can find collectors actually buying and selling the tins alone on eBay and at flea markets.
If you are looking for discontinued models of Fossil watches - and there are quite a few - you can find them at one of the Fossil outlet stores throughout the US. Of course, there is also a large selection of previously owned Fossil watches available on auction websites like eBay as well.
For the avid Fossil watch collector, perhaps the biggest "prize" is acquiring one of the custom watches produced by Fossil. For example, Fossil produced a unique Limited Edition set for the 2005 FedEx Orange Bowl National Championship game which was given as a gift to the players and coaches of both teams. Fossil produces custom watches for many corporations and organizations including TGIFridays, Dodge, Ducks Unlimited, TMobile and more.
Until recently, all Fossil watches featured battery-powered quartz movements. In June 2006, they introduced a new collection of "automatic" watches that appear to work on a type of kinetic power similar to the Seiko watches. A mechanical rotor, which can be seen through the skeleton dial, stores up to 40 hours of power from the motion of the wearer's wrist.
The eleven year warranty offered by Fossil is by far one of the longest in the industry. However, before you send a Fossil watch off to be serviced, be sure to check out the details of the terms and conditions - especially if you have a Limited Edition or collectible watch. If you send the watch to their service center, they can replace the watch - at their discretion! It would be a shame to send your favorite Fossil Superman watch in for service work and never see it again. By the way, Limited Edition models and watches purchased at their outlet stores are only covered under the warranty for one year.
Fossil also produces and distributes watches under many other brand names as well including Burberry, Diesel, DKNY, Marc Jacobs and Emporio Armani. Fossil watches are distributed exclusively by Fossil and their Retail Partners such as Bloomingdales, Burdines, Nordstrom, Marshall Field's and many other popular retailers and department stores.
You can find a store near you by using the Store Locator on the Fossil.com website. If you want to shop online, you can go directly to Fossil.com or Amazon.com. You will not find discounted prices from any authorized dealers. If you are not concerned with warranty coverage, then you can save some money by shopping from dealers offering "new old stock".
New Old Stock - Also referred to as "NOS". New products that have usually been acquired through store closings or liquidation from manufacturers and authorized dealers. New Old Stock is usually not sold by an authorized dealer and is not covered under a manufacturers warranty.
Fossil Superman Watches are a favorite among collectors. Most limited edition models sell out within a few weeks. Market prices on eBay tend to be 2-4 times the list price, depending on how many pieces were produced.
