You probably need a new battery

I do not think Citizen ever made any Elegance Eco-Drives, which means it is probably a quartz battery powered model. You said it is "older", even though it was never out of the box. Most batteries last 2-3 years so you probably need a new one. You can replace it yourself but if the watch has any water resistance at all it is best to let a pro do it for you at any jewelry or watch repair shop.

If your watch happens to be an Eco-Drive and it has been in the box for a long time then the "backup battery" that stores the energy will need to be charged back up. If it is completely dead it may take 3-4 days in direct sunlight before the watch starts working properly. Hope this helps you out. Let us know if you get it running and thanks for stopping by Your Guide To Watches.
