Invicta Watch Review

by Steve
(Kansas City area)

I have become some what of a watch collector lately, and cannot believe the different styles and movements that Invicta offers.

The CEO is a rebel of sorts in the Swiss watch industry. He feels there is no reason why someone should have to pay thousands of dollars for a fine Swiss movement watch.

If you do a little bit of research into the watch movement industry, you will find out that the movements really don't cost that much. It's just companies like rolex, and other big Swiss watch makers are charging a fortune for the name.

I have well over 2 dozen Invictas and am pleased with every one of them. They have some really beautiful dress watches, to some really radical new designs.

I have yet to have a problem with any of them and since they have the same swiss movements like ETA or Ronda in their watches the accuracy is fantastic, for a fraction of a lot of Swiss watches.

INVICTA WATCHES ARE JUNK!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

I have several Invicta watches and while they look nice the quality is poor. All of my Invicta watches have had to be sent in for repairs with-in 1 year of purchase for different things like minute hand falling off and the crown/stem coming completely out. Invicta charges $28 (they say for shipping and handling)if you are in warrenty. Once your watch is recieved by Invicta it is sent to China for the repairs (YES I SAID CHINA)and then the repairs take up to 90 days, in my case it took exactly 90 days to get my watch back. If you can get this watch for cheap buy it but BEWARE!

Invicta throw-aways
by: Anonymous

My opinion is based on the purchase of 4 Invictas before I knew better. Of the four, two were defective right out of the box (second hand fell off on one and minute hand was loose on another). Of the two remaining, one filled with water upon jumping into a pool (it was rated at 200m)and the other still works but the gold plating has rubbed off in so many spots that it's unwearbale. I learned that Invictas are basically throw-away items as the company offers horrid customer service and parts are difficult if not impossible to get. The 5 year warranty advertised on shopNBC covers only the movement. (There should be a class-action suit filed for their deceptive practices). So, the rule for Invictas should be (1) don't buy one, and if you do, don't pay over $75. (2)Don't buy from ShopNBC. (3) NEVER go swimming with one. I've taken these things apart and the water resistance claims are totally false due to poor or no gaskets.
The Invicta legacy is that their product is junk, invariably assembled in an Asian sweatshop, and sold under deceptive tactics(ShopNBC). Amazon sells them as well, but I suspect, given Amazon's reputation, that they may not do so in the future. Invicta has also started to spread their infection to outlets such as Zales and JC Penney.
Buy a quality watch...there are so many good choices out there. And, if you're a collector, collect quality pieces that have resale value...don't collect this junk. (I know of people that have 60 or 70 of these pieces of crap!)

Horrible Quality
by: Anonymous

I have had my invetica for a month and it filled with condensation and no longer keeps accurate time. What a piece of junk. Spoke to customer service and it was the same story $28 dollars to fix a defective watch. Save your self time and frustration!!!

I got my san III with a eta 7751 movement, It is look great but the quality can not compare to my other swiss watch and the moonphase even totally not working. If you have money buy it for the style, but if you really want the good reliable watch , but other big brand.

Beware of the fine print!
by: Anonymous

Beware of the fine print. I purchased an Invicta Reserve watch at Shop NBC with a defective crown. The stem became difficult to impossible to screw into the watch. I sent the watch in to Invicta with a $28 check for postage as the Reserve collection supposedly is covered under a five year warranty. They apparently do not include stem issues in their warranty coverage. I wonder what other parts of the watch are not covered and that I would have to pay then for the full cost of fixing their defect.

This will be my last Invicta Reserve watch. I am sorry that I own others.

so far so good
by: Mr. WI

just began collecting Invictas and haven't had any issues. I own 3 reserve level timepieces...the Limited Edition Bolt, the Subaqua Specialty, and the Gold Excursion. All three are quartz watches and I have had no issues with them. The watches are made well and are real attention getters. I would have no problem recommending Invicta to a friend. My next purchase will be an automatic timepiec from Invicta. Probably the Reserve Valjoux Sub IV. I like the automatic 5 year warranty with the reserve level timepieces.

If you need help
by: Anonymous

If you need customer service from Invicta forget it! Customer NOservice is what you can expect. I bought a watch and wore it 3 times- i noticed one of the diamond hour markers(11 o'clock position) had come out and was floating free in the dial. I had the watch for 3 months when this happened. The watch was still under warranty and they wanted me to send it back to them and include 28.00 for shipping. Unreal, they sell me a defective watch and act as if they are doing me favor by repairing it and want 28 bucks for shipping. Buyer beware if you need service.

Nearly 4 months to repair a link in the band.
by: Gary /Hawaii

In July 24th 2010 I purchased a Reserve Men's Pro-Diver Valjoux 7750, Automatic Chrono. S/S, priced @ $699.00 through ShopNBC. It is a great looking watch and the functions work well. However, after wearing it for about 5 weeks, while walking through a shoping mall, the watch fell of my wrist. Picking the watch up, I noticed that one of the links had come apart. On Sept. 17th I Mailed the watch back to the Invicta Service Center to have the band repaired.
The reply I received was that, I would receive the repaired watch sent back to me on or about 12/22 or 12/29/2010. which was totally unexceptable, but what else could I do. Well, they finally sent me a msg. Notifying me that the watch was shipped today. (1/12/2011) It's beyond me that Invicta would take nearly 110 days to repair a link in the braclet of the watch they represent.
I for one will never buy another watch from Invicta.

Much better buys are out there
by: Timexpert

I am a watchmaker/jewelry store owner. I have decided to quit carrying Invicta watches because their customer service is so horrid and the quality is so unpredictable. If you get a good Invicta, you will be fine, but their quality control is so erratic that it just isn't worth the risk. I have never in 30 years in this business seen a repair department that is so terrible in the way they handle the repairs and the way they treat their customers. $28 for shipping/handling on a defective watch that is UNDER WARRANTY??? No other company that I know of charges their customers a shipping and/or handling charge to repair something that they didn't build correctly to begin with. Spend your money on another more reputable brand - which is just about anything else!!

Duckwalls wouldn't even sell 'em!!
by: Anonymous

I agree with many of thew comments. I have received two $400.00 plus invictas, one runs about 20 minutes fast a week and the other basically fell apart. Getting them repaired appears to cost more than the watches. My star rating is for INVICTA; basically a cheap Duckwalls watch in a shiney cover. JUNK!!!!!

The worst time piece I have ever owned. The gold wore off the band within weeks & then stopped working & the crystal fogged up. Never again!

Invicta cheap clasps
by: Anonymous

I bought an Invicta 2577 lupah from Amazon. The watch looked awesome, but what a crappy braclet. Invicta (and a few other small small ShopNBC type watchmakers) use a pinch style double deploy clasp with no safety that has release buttons on either side of the clasp. I've tried a number of watches with these type clasps and none of them stay closed reliably. If you flex you're wrist or reach into your pockets it will pop open almost every time. Also elastic jacket cuffs seem to make it open also. Not acceptable, I sent it back and got a Citizen Calibre 2100. Just as flashy, but technically light years ahead. Full locking clasp with button and fold-over safety. Invicta, Renato and a few others are still using that clasp, I can't understand why they never improved it.

Got my Subaqua Noma III...
by: Wristful

...and I'm glad I got the $500 quartz and didn't pony up for the 2K for the automoatic version.

Looks.. I like it. The crystal is really clear with good AR coating. It's big and solid looking. The watch looks expensive to the untrained eye.

But the SN III has absolutely no lume. You can not see it in the dark at all. Even $15 drug store watches glow in the dark.

The band is poor quality. A pin broke off inside a link while sizing it. And the steel and black plastic middle is not first grade material. The black plastic middle is actually kind of cheap looking when you examine it.

The stem is loose when you pop it out to set the time and date. It actually wiggles. I do not have the confidence to even take this watch in the shower.

So styling is great but quality is a little scary. It's fun to wear but if you think it's the same quality as a fine swiss timepiece, you're kidding yourself. Nobody has ever said that except the CEO of Invicta, and you shouldn't believe everything you see on TV, especially ShopNBC.

I wouldn't go that far..
by: Wristful

I like Invictas too and have owned many over the years. Right now I am waiting for a Subaqua Noma III to be delivered. But I also have a collection of "real" Swiss watches. Don't kid yourself, there is a big difference in materials, movements, durability and fit and finish. 5 out of 10 Invictas I've owned have had some kind of defect. The Invicta CEO can say anything he wants, but there is a reason he markets through ShopNBC and artificially inflates prices so he can then offer the watches at 50% + off. Invicta styles are awesome. But I know my new Subaqua Noma, as cool as it looks, isn't going to hold up over the years. It is what it is.
