Omega Speedmaster Professional Watches

The Omega Speedmaster Professional watch, model number 3570.50.00, is the actual model that was worn on the Moon and is worn by NASA and Russian astronauts.

In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster Professional was "flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" ans is the only wristwatch to have passed all of the U.S. space agency's severe tests, including tests for extreme shock, vibration, and temperatures ranging from -18 to +93 degrees Celsius.

The crowning achievement in the history of the Omega Speedmaster Professional was July 20, 1969 when it was worn by Neil Armstrong as he took man's first steps on the surface of the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission.

This collection features the Omega 1863 or 1861 manual-winding chronograph movement, 48 hour power reserve, Domed anti-reflective scratch-resistant sapphire crystal or hesalite crystal, chronograph, three sub-dials, tachymeter and water resistance to 50 meters.

The hesalite crystals are used in many of the models because NASA required that if the crystal was broken it would not shatter into small pieces like a sapphire crystal. While this safety measure is important in space, there are trade-offs as hesalite is not as scratch resistant as sapphire crystals. The models that have the original acrylic hesalite crystal used by NASA are the 3577.50.00, 3569.31.00, 3572.50.00, 3870.50.31 and 3570.50.00.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional currently comes in eight variations. Model number 3570.50.00 (top right picture) is probably the most popular model and features a stainless steel case and bracelet with a black dial. Model Number 3195.50.00 is equipped with a yellow gold case and bracelet and a black dial.

Model number 3577.50.00 (pictured to the left) is a limited edition model called "From The Moon To Mars". Each of the sub-dials displays an image of the Earth, the Moon and Mars. The dial has an inscription "From the Moon to Mars" between 3 o'clock and 5 o'clock and on the case back.

The case backs of all the other Omega Speedmaster Professional watches have an inscription around the perimeter "Omega Speedmaster Professional First Watch Worn On The Moon".

The only models that have the see-through display case back are the 3572.50.00 (Discontinued - Hesalite crystal) and the 3573.50.00 (Sapphire Crystal).
