The Rolex GMT-Master II 16710 was first unveiled in 1989. This GMT-Master II watch had a long life span and was only discontinued in 2007. The GMT-Master II 16710 is equipped with a new movement, cal.3186, so it has a thinner case. As a model spanning 18 years, we see many changes in the ref.16710. One of the most obvious changes is the luminescence inside the dial from LumiNova (1998-1999) to Super -LumiNova (2000-2007). The next is the upgrade of the bracelet. The Rolex GMT-Master II 16710 made after 2000 has an Oyster bracelet with solid end links. Also, the case was slightly modified in 2003 by eliminating the exterior holes on the side of the lugs. Rolex GMT-Master II 116718 Cerachrom Bezel (2005)
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the GMT-Master, Rolex launched the ref. 116718 yellow gold in 2005. Although it was a black monochrome monochrome ceramic bezel, Rolex produced various two-tone ceramic bezels in the following years. The knock off Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLRO, released in 2018, is made of stainless steel and is paired with a Jubilee bracelet. Henceforth, Rolex uses the Oyster bracelet and the Jubilee bracelet to distinguish between precious metal models and stainless steel models.
All Rolex GMT-Master II watches are now equipped with Calibre 3285 movement, the case size remains 40MM, the water resistance remains 100M and the bezels are made of ceramic. The GMT-Master II watches made of 904L stainless steel match the Jubilee bracelet, and the GMT-Master II watches made of precious metal match the Oyster bracelet. What makes everyone keep liking it is not only the beautiful appearance but also the practical function of being able to display three time zones at the same time.
