Citizen Eco-Drive Aqualand JV0010-08E

Citizen Eco-Drive Aqualand JV0010-08E

I have owned many Aqualand's throughout the years, being an experienced diver I have taken them all on very demanding dives. This model in particular, I believe, is most likely the best that Citizen has done to the Aqualand series of watches so far.

It is sturdy and very well put together, there is no crown to adjust the watch which removes the risk of ruining the watch if you have to adjust it in outdoor conditions (dive sites can be very challenging). It is over sized which makes reading the watch under water in dark conditions very easy.

The depth sensor is accurate to an acceptable tolerance of 1-2ft of the actual depth depending on water conditions and depth (the actual depth was measured with a UWATEC Galileo Sol). To serious divers the Aqualand is usually used as a back up and not as the primary dive tool. Bear in mind that it was not meant to replace a dive computer.

It's dive functions are very basic but useful. Although Citizen tried to put more dive features in other watches like the Hyper Aqualand and the NX models which in my opinion did not really catch on in the dive world. Yet this model really presents a viable backup.

One criticism to this model though is the lack of a countdown and/or chronometer. For dive masters and instructors this is a useful tool to monitor the time lapse of dives when supervising students in the water. The rubber band quality is above average and does not become brittle over time.

Dual time zone features are useful to travelers not to divers. I recommend Citizen delete this feature in subsequent models or substitute for other dive related features like compass information, heart monitor, algorithm for saturation dives etc.

Also a big plus is that you never have to send it for a battery replacement and get fees charged for hydrostatic testing. Divers of all ages and experience will not be disappointed with this model. It presents a good overall value and an excellent backup to your dive computer.

- Dive safely and never beyond you experience level!

Citizen Anniversary Aqualand JV0010-08E
by: valvestem

I picked this watch up at an online AD for $360.00. I liked it enough to get the cousin Anniversary Aqualand sililar to a D-Ring shape. Although it is a large watch per se, it is not overlay large or glitzy. I particularly like the date window as well. No I am contemplating the orange strapped Anniversary Aqualand, which has subtle differences (ornage instead of white) in the dial and interface design.

Great review - here is some pricing info
by: Jay

Thanks Philippe for that awesome review! You need to get some pics for us when you are on a dive. If you upload them to Picasa, flickr or another photo sharing site, you can embed the image in a comment.

This watch is actually a 20th Anniversary edition of the Citizen Aqualand. Retail price is $600. You can get it from most online dealers for around $360. Amazon.com has a deal that also includes free overnight shipping. Pretty good deal - 40% off retail and free overnight shipping!

I actually found it at one other dealer for $325, but I am not sure they are authorized dealers because the price is below the guidelines established by Citizen. Since Citizen offers a five year warranty, it might be worth finding one from an authorized dealer.
