1983 Seiko Watch Commercial
It seems strange to use the term "Seiko digital vintage watches" considering that the first six-digit display LCD watch was introduced by Seiko in 1973. That is not very old in terms of watch age. However, watch technology has rapidly advanced over the last 30 years.
The Seiko Quartz LC V.F.A. 06LC is the oldest Seiko digital vintage watch. It used the world's first six-digit liquid-crystal display. The most important feature of the 06LC was its driving mechanism. The watch was designed so the electric signals were sent directly to the liquid crystal panel, where they were converted to digits on the display. A lamp provided enough light to make the display easy to read, even in the dark.

In the latter half of the 1960's a desire to display time with numbers instead of hands led to the development of a digital watch. The initial display technologies of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and dynamic scattering mode (DSM) LCDs had two primary drawbacks - high power consumption and poor visibility. This lead to the successful development of the 06LC digital watch, which was received even more favorably by the market than had been expected.
In 1975 Seiko introduced the world's first multi-function digital watch. Since then they have produced numerous digital watches with calculators, keypads, remote controls and even a TV receiver. Lots of these watches have a high geekiness factor and if you are into that, you will love these watches.
If you are a collector of Seiko digital vintage watches, you are going to have very few watches to choose from. Unfortunately, these watches were so cheap when they were introduced that when they broke or needed a battery, most folks just threw them away and bought a new one. However, if you are patient, you may be able to find something that you like.
